LinkedIn - new native Video - app update
There is a global video integration throughout social media platforms. The latest update comes from the mobile app of LinkedIn, where you can post an already saved video or record a new one (up to 10 minutes in length).
This new update is not available to desktop users. Up until now, the only way you could upload videos to LinkedIn was via YouTube and Vimeo links. It has been difficult for companies and individuals to post video through the use of those platforms as not all of the corporations have YouTube or Vimeo accounts, and also some corporate videos do not need to be uploaded there. There is still a prevention of sharing videos to a Business profile, but we believe it will be available soon.
We posted a video last night via Mara Doukidi’s personal profile on LinkedIn in order to showcase to you, how this new feature works (the screenshots are taken from Samsung S7, Android)
Open the mobile application of LinkedIn and choose to post. There is the icon of the video and when you press there, the choices you have are:
When you write the text you can tag others or business profiles, that will receive notifications of this post as well. (For Ste.Ma Consulting the tag didn’t work and no notifications were received).
For a 6 seconds video it took around 5 minutes to be posted and the following tabs of the video processing appeared, both on the application and the mobile phone notifications pop ups.
There has been a rumour recently that those videos posts are getting greater reach than the usual posts on LinkedIn.
We are sharing with you the analytics of the video post that are presented to us (they are very similar to the analytics of a usual LinkedIn post):
After the video has been posted there are some extra choices. You can share it, edit it, delete or disable the comments for this specific post.
How can we use video sharing?
The truth is this new update is a bit tricky, as one can broadcast and share directly a personal video. So how can you estimate what should be shared to your professional network?
For a personal LinkedIn account:
Be creative but on the same time formal
Share professional advice to your network
Show how you work and how this makes you feel, happy or productive
Share some personal interests
Promote your colleagues or friends that already use LinkedIn
Showcase events, conferences and professional networking
For a business LinkedIn account:
Use the corporate videos you already have
Showcase your employees and their thoughts towards your company, recent trends or how they work
Share shots from your offices and present the working environment
Post videos from corporate events
Post videos where your products are being used or how your services come to life
Provide market insights
Regarding the Business LinkedIn account, corporations need to reevaluate who will be responsible for uploading these videos and which team should evaluate them before being posted (HR department, Marketing, PR, etc).
