What do Instagram Collections remind you of?
Instagram Collections is a new personal organizational tool, through which the user can save pictures from any feed and categorize them under ‘Collections’.
Let’s see a step by step guide of how to use this new feature:
When you open the tab of collections to see the pictures you have saved from your feed or your Instagram searches, there is an introduction of this feature and the button to ‘Create Collection’. When you press on the blue letters you can write down the name of the Collection, which works as a personal folder.
In Ste.Ma Consulting’s Instagram account we
have been creating several Collections – folders in order to map the visuals we like, our designs posted by other users and inspirational posts that we can use as research for our projects.
Privacy
The Collections are Private for now, we do not know yet how Instagram will upgrade them in the future, if they start to become popular and users would like to share or download them. It is written on the screen of the Saved/ Collections, ‘Only you can see what you’ve saved’.
Pinterest Characteristics
The Collections and the Saving tool is very close to the features of Pinterest. After Snapchat, Instagram tends to elaborate and create similar user behaviors with those of Pinterest’s. Pins and previously Likes, are used to create personal or public boards of Visuals. Right now, Instagram Collections (boards) remain personal and they cannot be shared but the similarities with Pinterest’s usability is very close.
Usage of the tool
This tool can be used by users mainly for management and organization of media they would like to see again. Professional accounts can use this feature in order to track who, when and where their products – creations were posted on the app. Moreover, they can save visuals for inspiration and future usage. But also, brands and marketing managers are able to map trends and competitors posts inside the application.
